This week brought with it a new copyright infringement filing at the Puerto Rico District Court, sort of. Plaintiff, Nelson Santana, filed a copyright infringement complaint at the state court, alleging that defendants had recorded his voice one day, and later produced a song with said recording. The complaint alleges that defendants made him sign a paper in exchange for some money. As such, plaintiff claims royalty payments and for the Court to recognize him as a co-author.
Understandably, the case was removed to Federal Court as Puerto Rico courts (or any state court for that matter) cannot entertain issues of copyright authorship or royalty payments due to infringement. Below is the certified translation of the complaint, and the notice of removal can be found here.
